71908_1556529547896_5926613_nSorry I missed yesterday, I was busy watching The Walking Dead. If you watch this show you will understand why I have been a tad obsessed. Anyway, I’m taking a break from it long enough to post some fascinating facts.

21) I go to concerts, it’s kind of my thing. Some people knit, others play crossword puzzles, I go to concerts.

22) Both my parents are deceased. My dad passed away April 23, 2007 and my Mom passed away September 5, 2008. My dad had Lewy Bodies Disease, which is a long and lingering illness that took him away little by little. By the time he died he has just a shell of the man he once was. My Mom died seven months after being diagnosed with cancer. I miss them both everyday. That seems cliche’ to say because anyone who has ever lost a loved ones feels that way.  But I do miss them, I don’t miss the past as much as I am sad about what they are missing now. I think about graduations, learners permits, swim meets, cross country meets and all those things that I know they would enjoy but didn’t have the opportunity to see. That’s the kind of stuff that makes me grieve for them.

23) I have tattoos. Lots of them. Most have meaning and a great story. Even if that great story is that I got really drunk and got an impromptu tattoo that I probably didn’t need or necessarily want.

24) I am also a tattoo liaison. I have taken lots of people to get their first tattoos. I provide placement and artwork advice, I hold hands and offer shots of tequila. And I do it for free. I could easily charge for this service but I consider it my calling.

25) I have a bedtime ritual that rivals all bedtime rituals. It takes me a very long time to get ready for bed. It’s not so much the act that takes a long time, it’s the fact that if I mess up any of the process I need to start over. Everything has to be just right or I can’t sleep. I believe that everyone has something that they are a little OCD about and this is mine.

26) I dabble in photography. I love the look and lines of an awesome shot. I used to carry my camera everywhere I went but now with an iPhone I don’t really need to.

27) I have one sibling, a sister. Currently we are stuck somewhere in limbo. She is a drug addict. Recovery or not, that process is demanding on friends and family. Your life becomes entwined in theirs. The failure and blame is often placed on your shoulders. You can never do enough or be enough and become the punching bag. Year after year, day after day, it takes a toll. Sometimes you need to walk away to gain perspective and focus.

28) My Mom was of Serbian descent and my Dad was Finnish. I very much identify with the Finn in me. I prefer hockey over baseball, I love a good sauna and SISU is my mantra.

29) Cheryl and I decided to adopt kids rather than conceive because I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t be a big enough person to not hold the fact that I was the biological mom over her head. It’s sad and narcissistic, but it’s honest. So we decided to adopt and it was the best decision we have ever made. Not only are we truly equal parents, but we had the opportunity t make a big difference in a child’s life, and they had a chance to make a big difference in ours.

Two more days and 17 more facts to go…! See you tomorrow!
