Equality Prevailed! THANK YOU SCOTUS!

in Family, Gay & Lesbian, Sex

0cdd1e2e7ee938d0daaa600dbbaf9cacThere is no denying it, today is a big day!

The Supreme Court of the United States has, in a word, over-turned two of the most prolific and discriminatory laws that have denied or were trying to deny gays and lesbians rights at the state and federal levels.

Good for them.

I’m going to be honest, I was a little worried. When you have some old school judges sitting on the bench, there is no way to know how they are going to vote. At best, I was hoping they were just gonna throw both briefs in the trash and say that in this day and age it was bullshit that they had to sit and waste their time deciding on crap that doesn’t really affect the American people (and really, it doesn’t…) Or at the very least, that they wouldn’t take my legally binding marriage away from me.

They met somewhere in the middle and that my friends is victory enough for me!

There are still over 3 dozen states that do not allow same sex marriage. Over-turning D.O.M.A isn’t going to change that, but it will open doors for it to happen in the future.

Prop 8 hits closer to home. The marriage I had built my life around was at stake, as was the foundation that we built our family. Prop 8 jeopardized that. Prop 8 was a law that says marriage could only be between and man and a woman. Period. End of story. Prop 8 said that my marriage ruined the sanctity of all heterosexual marriages in the State of California.

I have said it a millions times and I will keep repeating it until it sinks in. If my marriage is affecting yours, you got bigger problems that you are owning up to. Unless your husband (or wife) peeking into my windows, there is NO WAY my marriage can influence yours.

So there.

To quote @daveholmes via Twitter:

“As we celebrate today, let’s spare a warm thought for our opponents, who have lost absolutely nothing.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

No one lost today, but a large group of Americans gained ground breaking acceptance.

My last blog post was about how the times are changing.

Today proves it.

Happy Equality!
