Get Well Soon Bruin!

in Home Life, NaBloPoMo

2012-07-21 18.18.07Oh boy. I really fell off the NaBloPoMo wagon.

Life got busy, days got shorter and frankly, I didn’t really have anything to say.

Last weekend our Labrador Retriever Bruin, got really sick.

So sick we had called for an appointment to put him down.

But I think he heard me on the phone making his appointment and he was like “OH HELL NO!” and suddenly he got better. Not a lot better, but enough better.

The funny thing is, Bruin has always been an outdoor dog. He hated it in the house. It made him nervous, anxious and claustrophobic. But since he was so sick, we made him stay inside. Mostly because I stayed up with him at night to make sure he was okay and I wasn’t about to sleep in the garage.

As long as he needed monitoring, I was going to do it on my terms.

But now he LOVES it in the house. He barely goes out to pee. It’s like he just discovered a 5 Star hotel and he has no desire to ever leave it. And he has this new habit where he will only eat if I hand feed him.

I shit you not.

And the kicker is, I do it. I sit there on the kitchen floor like an idiot feeding him one bite of food at a time.

He will only drink filtered water (or toilet water) and prefers his bed in front of the fire place.

He is really turning into a Prima Donna.

I feel for you as we are going through the same thing withour dog, Sophie. The things we do for our pets. They are one of our family members and it’s so hard to imagine life without them. The choices are hard and seem so unfair. The hardest part is deciding when it is time to surrender the fight. The responsibility is overwhelming. So sorry you are going through this also. I miss you my friend!! Let’s get together soon.

Kristy- So sorry to hear about Sophie. :( It is hard…I appreciate the fact that we have the honor to end our loved ones suffering but you are right, it is so hard to determine when. The line is never black and white. Good luck, I’ll be thinking of you all. And yes, lets get together SOON! We need a sushi date pronto!

I’m glad he kicked into gear to enjoy more time with you!

Karen- It’s petty funny, you could almost see the light bulb go off in his head when he figured out what he had been missing. It did take a couple of days of him being in the house so sick he couldn’t even lift his head for him to get adjusted to the inside but now he is a fan!
