Goodbye Baba Wawa

tumblr_m3fehwr0161qbjc7fo1_500Barbara Walter’s retired from The View on Friday. My Mom used to watch The View everyday, her day could not start without watching Hot Topics. If you happened to call during that time she would pick up the phone and say “Can’t talk! The View is on!” and then promptly hang up on you. I asked her why she just didn’t let the phone ring and she said because it would just keep on ringing and ruin her show.

The few days before she died we were watching The View and right after her favorite Hot Topics she drifted off to sleep and never woke up.

I can’t help but think it was part of her plan.

My Mom’s days revolved around her shows. They got her started in the morning and helped her wind down at night. I can’t think that it’s just coincidence that she waited until after Hot Topics to start leaving this world and died right after Jay Leno’s monologue. It was a perfect way for her to go.

I felt a sense of duty to tune in to see Barbara’s send off. And it was a great tribute, full of her finest moments and accomplishments but even with all of her accolades I can’t see her as anything other than Baba Wawa.
