Happy 6th Anniversary!

IMG_7026Cheryl and celebrate a few anniversaries, not because we have a lot of special dates, it’s more because the laws keep changing and allowing us more and more rights as the years pass.

This year in December we will celebrate our 20th anniversary.

That’s a big deal y’all!

When people ask us how long we have been together we always feel obligated to tell them this date because it’s the one that closely resembles how long we have been together.

But in May of 2001 the laws changed to allow Domestic Partnerships so we had a ceremony in Key West Florida to commemorate the legal aspects of that commitment. At the time, it was a big friggin’ deal and to be honest I thought this was where the laws would stop. I thought this was going to be as good as it gets.

Lucky for me, I was wrong.

The great people of the state of California (eventually) decided to make it legal, and I couldn’t be mire grateful.

Being married makes you legit. There is a completeness that the vows and paperwork offer that is hard to describe and possibly only understood once that right isn’t available to you.

It was a great day filled with wonderful memories. Thank you to everyone near and far who supported us that day, who helped us prove that the world is changing for the better and for realizing that love is love and is worth sharing.
