Happy Birthday Eye Brows

Yesterday was my birthday. I turned 45 years young.cake

I say “young” because I feel at the ripe age of 45 I am too old to point out the obvious.

You know, that I am old.

Luckily, the only thing that feels old are my eye brows. I know you were expecting something like my knees or back, but those are okay, the only thing falling a part is my eye brows.

Before I get into the whole eyebrow thing, I have to explain my family history. And by history, I don’t exactly mean history,  I mean I have to tell you how I do not look like anyone in my family. I have just enough body part resemblance to tell that I am not adopted, but I don’t have enough traits combined to say I actually look like any of my relatives.  I have my Mom’s hands and Buterbaugh butt, I have my Dad’s eyes and my Aunt Jeanne’s boobs. But as a whole I look nothing like the majority of either side of my family. On my mother’s side of the family I had two Great Aunts, Louise and Sophie, respectively. Both ladies were super tall (I’m talking 6-3+ kind of tall) both were slim and elegant, and had that movie star quality about them. Picture the 1940’s cigarette girls with high cheek bones, long satin gloves and perfectly lined lips.

They were stunning.

When I was younger, I was in awe of them. Neither never married and they lived together  in a skyrise apartment in downtown Los Angeles. Their house was filled with whimsical oddities they collected from their worldly travels that made it the kind of place not meant  for a kid to visit. One of those “no touch” zones with plastic wrapped couches. I can remember sitting in the corner playing with push button phone because I couldn’t play with anything else. They were the first to have such a thing and I was mesmerized by the beeps and boops the phone made when I pushed the buttons.

Anyway, you get the picture. Tall, elegant and sophisticated. They both stayed that way well into their golden years. Drinking scotch on the rocks with their pinkies out. But, even with all their elegance, they still had their flaws. First, they both wore the same bob hair cut and both had a penchant for big ugly barrettes. Same hair, same barrettes. Year, after year, after year…

And, they both had these wildly out of control eyebrows.

I don’t mean just bushy, I mean OUT OF CONTROL.

And I was lucky enough to inherit them.

The older I get, the wilder and bushier mine get.

They are my nemesis.

This year I my eye brows have more stray hairs than I have birthday candles.

Happy Birthday to me…

Thank you Bonnie! I am making the most out of my birthday month!

Oh la la… I should try birthday month. Thus far I’ve only celebrated birthday week. Clearly, I’ve been cheated, and I am going to rectify that this coming birthday.
