OJ Simpson Killed My Grandma (Probably)

June 12, 2014

in Dad, Family

oj2o years ago OJ Simpson (the guilty fucker that killed his x-wife and her boyfriend) took off across the freeways of Los Angeles in his now famous white Bronco. If you lived in California, especially anywhere in So Cal, you couldn’t escape the news coverage. It was on every TV channel and every radio station…everywhere.

Coincidentally, the car chase happened when my grandmother was in the final stages of breast cancer. My Dad was staying with her in her mobile home trailer Glendora, California and of course, like everyone else, they were watching the car chase because honestly you couldn’t watch anything else (this was prior to the 65,907,236 TV stations we have today, back then we had like 11 tops.) At one point during the chase my grandmother leaned over to my Dad and said “I can’t take it anymore.”

And then she died.

In my Dad’s defense he thought she meant that she couldn’t take anymore of the OJ Simpson car chase.

My dad always said he was going to sue OJ for wrongful death of my grandmother, but the line of people waiting to sue OJ was really long so he just let it go. Plus he said my grandmother got off easy because lets face it, she was going to die soon anyway and at least she didn’t have to watch anymore of the car chase or the impending months of court drama. So in the end, it was a win for Grandma.

I never knew you had that connection to OJ! Your Grandma is probably looking down at the news and is at peace with her decision!

Karen- I think so! And I said, I am delighted she left us with such a fun story to pass along for generations to come!

Lola- Thank you! I didn’t have to be funny, the story is funny enough on its own!

I bet your Grandma was very strong.

I think she made a proper exit given how much wasted space that turkey took on TV and everywhere else at the time.

How can that possibly have been 20 years ago?!?

Oh dear.

Peady- Yes, 20 years ago…so hard to believe. And 20 years later how my Grandma passed is still a wonderful story. So glad she left us with that claim to fame!
