The End of a Go Go's Era.

go go concert sweatYesterday the Official Go Go’s web-site reported that Kathy Valentine is leaving the band.

This sucks.

It wasn’t that Kathy was my favorite Go Go (she’s not, it’s Jane! Jane is my favorite!) there just seemed to be something nostalgic about having all five of the original girls on stage together.

She broke her wrist last summer and missed the last half of the 2012 tour and currently plays in another band called The BlueBonnets. Maybe that’s the reason. I doubt we will ever really know. Sometimes doors are meant to close so that other ones can open.

And yes, I totally swiped that saying from Pinterest, thank you very much.

It’s been 20+ years that they have been a band. If you have watched any of the Behind The Music shows, you will understand that it hasn’t been easy. They have been rocked (no pun intended) by addiction, ego and scandal. They fought hard to stay together and in the end I guess the fight wasn’t worth the effort.

Sometimes it comes down to that.

If the vicious circle isn’t ending and you feel like a hamster on a wheel, moving on isn’t a bad thing.

As sad as it will be to see them this summer without Kathy Valentine on bass guitar, I understand that playing the same music over and over again (even if it’s to adoring and appreciative fans like myself) may not grow the soul.

“I was incredibly wrapped up in being a Go-Go,” KATHY admits. “So much so that I ceased to be me. It took me many years to find Kathy Valentine again!”

I guess all I can do is wish her the best of luck.

And then go listen to Beauty and the Beat really loud to drown out the sound of my tears…
